If These Books Could Talk...
If these books could talk...
Each of us chose a book with our Reading Buddy and read it several times independently or with someone. We then wrote about the book through the lens of being the actual book. We had such fun brainstorming all the different things a book might say if it could actually talk. Students then used their"Word Collector" booklets to add in juicy descriptive vocabulary. We wrote in a speech bubble, attached it to our book and shared that writing in Author's Chair. Our books are now on display. Students are enjoying reading each other's speech bubbles. Just imagine.... what if these books could talk!? what would it say? |

An Acadian Community Field Trip
On Thursday, February 28th, our class jumped on an imaginary plane to Bouctouche, New Brunswick.
Students were excited to be immersed in the daily life of an Acadian Community.
A HUGE thank you to our four parent volunteers and 1 Grandma who took the time out of their busy day and lend a helping hand. Students made butter, learned about the fibre arts, played Acadian games (including the wooden spoons) learned about the Acadian flag, chores and weather.
Students painted their own Acadian lighthouse (a powerful symbol of the Acadian Community).
So exciting to learn about a new Canadian Community!

Flat Stanley Community Project
Wow! Thank you Families for participating and all your help in making our Flat Stanley Community Project such a grand success!
It has been so fantastic to learn and celebrate all about the unique landmarks, traditions, culture of different countries and continents and most of all meeting new friends and family from all around the world!
Sadly, we only have one student that is still waiting to hear back from his family and Flat doll....

Flashlight Fridays
Flashlight Fridays are a BIG hit in our classroom!
We darken the classroom, shut off the lights, close the blinds, turn off all technology lighting, choose a reading buddy and agree on a book of choice. Students make a reading plan, curl up all around the room in EEKK position, turn on their flashlights and read!!!
The most delightful thing about Fridays... is the fun of cozy reading with a good book and a bright flashlight!
Thanks for sending in those flashlights and new batteries as needed!

A very big thank you to the parent volunteers who were able to take time out of their busy schedule to join us on this incredible field trip! Our new word of the day was "confluence" where the Bow River and Elbow River meet and where Fort Calgary was then originated.

Flat Stanley Mail Off PartyOn October 4th, we packed up our Flat Dolls, a mini-passport and added a letter to our family and friends. We walked over to the Hawkwood 7-11 Canadian Postal Outlet and mailed off our envelopes.
It was an exciting moment when an actual letter carrier for the Hawkwood area came in to pick up our envelopes (he is in our picture below) at the same time we were there. Let the community adventures begin... Terry Fox Run 2018 -September 28thSeptember Gym outdoors

O
Our class is collecting “Loose Parts!”
Can you help? When recycling, cleaning house or walking in nature, you might find some small items that we could add to our on-going classroom collection. Please help us find things like broken jewelry, gems, smooth sticks, feathers, things from nature, metal pieces ,fabric, beads, keys, corks, bottle caps, buttons, etc. Thank you for adding to our STEM collection and helping us engage in open-ended discovery and exploration! Our Flat DollsWe designed our flat version of our dolls today inspired by reading the Flat Stanley chapter book written by author Jeff Brown. Tomorrow we will be stuffing the addressed envelopes, adding the passport and letter to our family and friends who will be receiving our flat dolls. Next we will be heading to the Post Office for our big "Mail Off Party"!
We are super excited to launch our global community and citizenship project! Designing a Grain Elevator Together- Prairies
