March 11, 2019 - The Word Collector - 2-3 Syllable Words
We have gone back to basics to work on our spelling when writing. We have been reviewing vowels/consonant, syllables, spelling rules (silent e, when two vowels go walking), sight words and making words in general. If you have a chance to work on sight words at home please do! I have included the website below to the dolch sight word lists by level. Here are some pictures of us collecting words that have 2-3 syllables from text print!

February 28th, 2019 - Teacher's Pet Visit - An Acadian Community in Canada. We did lots of fun things like paint a lighthouse, make butter, play games and experiment with traditional musical instruments!
February 27th, 2019 - PINK SHIRT DAY - We talked about anti-bullying and conflict resolution and did some role play on solving conflicts in a calm way and by using our words. We looked as the "I" statements, a good way to let someone know how you feel.
February 22, 2019 - This week we have been busy learning about the Arctic. We learned about the high prices of groceries up in the Canadian North and got into groups to work out a shopping list at the local Northmart in Iqaluit (we had $100 and tried to spend it all, couldn't go over our budget!). Check out our Inuksuit display and fact cards that have been placed in the display cabinets in the Hawks Nest.... Very cool!

Liquids Exploration - Absorbency Test - January 25
We explored liquids and hot/cold during the month of January and completed many experiments to learn about liquids. We learned about liquid viscosity, liquid density, surface tension, absorbency, changes in matter and the water cycle. Check out some pictures of 'scientists' testing absorbency rates of different materials.
